We are hot and sweaty in the city of Montreal. Today is one of the hottest days so far this summer and the temperature will probably rise for the next few days.  We don’t mind because we’re on our way to Iceland in August!!!  Yes, you read right.

We’re on our way to the motherland!

Our Canadian band members applied for a grant earlier this year at the Canada Council for the Arts for a trip to Iceland to study and write music with the amazing producer/musician Valgeir Sigurðsson (Björk, Kate Nash, Múm, and many more).  We are soooo excited about this and grateful and happy and ecstatic and we’ve already booked our tickets and are busy planning and rehearsing for the trip.

Thank you Canada Council for the Arts!

Hopefully the country of fire and ice will inspire us to write eclectic music that most of you will enjoy. We’ll do our best. :-)

Hello my darlings,

We’ve had a lot of great feedback from fans and friends for our new website and I’m so happy that most of you like it! :-)

Lately I have been experimenting with making Nista related fashion items and I’m completely enjoying it.  I went out and got myself a silk screen printing kit (sounds very fancy, but it’s basically pantyhose stapled to a wood frame and some paint).  I’ve done one screen and made some test prints and I’m thrilled with the results and how much fun this is.  Here is a little snapshot of my workstation

This is just the first experiment and I haven’t got he whole “print-in-one-swoop-maneuver” down yet, but I’m getting there. If you have any suggestions, tips or comments feel free to tell me about them.  And yes, that is a tiger clown.

I’ve also started making some accessories and I’m a little bit scared that nobody will like to wear these things…they might be too kitschy and weird. Glitter birds, leopard print and tassels? What do you think?

My fingers were completely bust after braiding the cotton yarn for the necklaces…and it took forever!!!

Once I have the screen printing down I will post images of the shirts and stuff in our online store.  Oh, and on that note, we need models to pose for us wearing them and the accessories. If you or anyone you know might be interested, send us an e-mail at info@nistamusic.com

Bam. This is our new website. We really like it and we hope you like it tooooooo (if you don’t, either tell us why or pretend like you like it so our feelings won’t be hurt…we’re fragile like that).

Tommi and I are back from the land of fire, ice and crazy politics. We had a great trip, filled with family get-togethers, food, music and sunshine…yes, there was sunshine the whole time we were there, which is unheard of in Iceland! Oh, and fur is totally in there…I was so surprised to see all these girls walking around in fur coats with fur hats (most of which are second-hand). So if you’re going to Iceland, bring all the fur you have to fit in.

The four of us (Tommi, Phil, Jerome and I) have been working hard on our album for a while now and we’ve developed a lot since the release of our EP. We’re now in the final stages and hopefully you’ll be able to hear it soon.  We’re so excited to hear what you think.

We’ve got a couple of shows coming up in March with some very cool bands.  Indie Montreal is organizing a show with us on March 5th at Green Room. We’re playing with Barton Fink (they kick ass…and they’re not afraid to admit it) and Afterparty (a rocking band from Toronto).  On March 20th we’re playing at Club Lambi with Diving Bell and Destael, two really interesting local bands.

We have a lot planned for the upcoming shows…some new music, new visuals and new attitude (screaming, stripping and making sweet love is now encouraged at our shows).

2010 is the year we plan on touring parts of the world…starting with Quebec. Then if anybody wants to invite us to play in …say Bora Bora, just contact us at booking [at] nistamusic [dot] com and we’ll go from there. :-)

Oh, and I’m posting a new diary video very soon…so stay tuned!
